Trend Spotting: Oversized Pants

Fashion always comes full circle, doesn't it?  Things that seem like a flash-in-the-pan trend {bell bottoms, neon colors, legwarmers} wind up working their way back into style, whether it's a few years later or a few decades later.  Recently I've noticed 1990s styles cropping back up again ~ mini-flower prints on shorts and tops; flannel that, albeit cuter this time around, is reminiscent of the grunge era.  The '90s were probably my least favorite fashion decade, so this has not been a trend rebirth revisted by me.  Every other fashion era, however, offers at least something that I like, so I was happy to open my email this morning and see the latest Trend Report from Who What Wear.

It appears that super-wide-leg pants are back in the spotlight ~ not fitted-at-the-waist and flared-on-the-leg bell bottom styles, but pants that are loose and comfortable without being unflattering.  This style is remniscent of the late '70s/early 80s ~ sort of a Bianca Jagger/Studio 54 vibe. They are also a super comfy dressy-outfit option for work or the holidays.  The trick to pulling these off without looking like you're drowning in fabric is to go neat and fairly fitted on top, usually tucked in {although feel free to try a cropped top that hits just above the waist of the pant if you've got the tummy for it!}.  Try a tucked-in, structured button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up for work or a short-sleeve mock-turtleneck for work, or pair with a plain fitted t-shirt or tucked-in blousy tank for the weekend.

I am a big fan of hitting up Forever 21 for trendy pieces ~ their stock is constantly being updated and some of their items are ridiculously cheap {the red pants are $19.80!}.  Check out some of the wide-legged pants they have on their website right now.

For a higher-quality work pant, Express offers their new Ultra Wide Leg Pant at $79.90.  {I can't get the picture to post right now, but click the link to go directly to the pant}.

So help yourself to just one more fun-size Kit Kat ~ these oversize pants have got you covered!

xoxo
